The Jets have been one of the surprise teams of the season so far but it would take their strongest performance yet to beat an in-form Sydney side.
Seeking to freshen-up his starting 11, Graham Arnold introduced Brosque into the team for former Newcastle man David Carney.
It was a decision the manager certainly wouldn't regret with Brosque opening the scoring only eight minutes in after Michael Zullo pounced on a wayward Jack Duncan kick before forwarding the ball on to Milos Ninkovic, who placed the ball perfectly through to the captain who eased the ball past the keeper.
Filip Holosko came close to making it 2-0 only minutes later after another Jets turnover left him with only Duncan to beat but the Slovak attacker failed to capitalise as his shot hit the sidebar from a difficult angle.
Newcastle's best chance came in the 44th minute as Steven Ugarković skewered his shot from less than ten yards out to the right of the post.
The Sky Blues would go on to get their second three minutes into the second half as Duncan parried a powerful Holosko strike straight into the path of an unmarked Milos Ninkovic who finished in the way that Ugarkovic should have in the first as Sydney began to look a cut above their opposition.
While the Jets increased their defensive pressure for the final third of the match the score would end at 2-0 as Sydney increased winning run to four straight games without conceding a goal while Newcastle suffered their first loss in arguably their worst performance of the season.
The defeat for rookie coach Mark Jones was compounded by a knee injury to the experienced Ben Kantarovski who had to be helped from the field late in the game.
