A two-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a backyard pool in Sydney's southwest.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to a home in Macquarie Fields at about 6.10pm on Sunday and rushed the girl to Liverpool Hospital where she later died.

The incident comes after the deaths of 23-month-old twins, found unconscious in a pool on December 20.

Acting Superintendent Mark Brett has called on parents to take special care when it comes to children around water.

"Be particularly vigilant with regards to young children, especially where there's a pool in the area. Young children, especially toddlers, do travel very quickly at this time so I can only say again, don't assume that you know where they are. Be sure you know where they are," he said.
