A third teenager has been charged over an alleged one-punch attack on the Gold Coast that left a 21-year-old man in hospital.

Thomas Dover was walking on Ferny Avenue at Surfers Paradise with a friend around 2am on Wednesday when he was confronted by a group of youths.

Police allege there was an argument that led to some of the teens assaulting the man, who was punched in the back of the head, causing him to fall and hit his head on the footpath.

He sustained serious head injuries and was stabilised at the scene before being rushed to Gold Coast University hospital.

Police on Thursday said they had charged a 15-year-old boy from Loganlea with grievous bodily harm over the attack.

A 16-year-old from Churchill and a 14-year-old from Goodna have already been charged with a range of offences over the incident and are due to face Southport Children's Court on Thursday.

Mr Dover, who had just last week celebrated his 21st birthday, remains in hospital with his family by his bedside.
