* "We are the most progressive state in our nation. That means we value fairness, just as much as we value strength. Equity is important." - Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters after his re-election on Sunday.
* "Can I say for the next parliament, as a party, we need to stick together. We need to stay united and we need to stay focused on our opponents and the game ahead, not on ourselves." - Victorian opposition leader Matthew Guy said after conceding defeat.
* "The Greens are proud of the positive campaign we have run in the face of enormous pressure and mudslinging." - Victorian Greens leader Samantha Ratnam said.
* "It is a very sad and difficult day for the Liberal Party. It is absolutely important that we listen to the electorate, understand the messages and the vision they are seeking from the party." - Health Minister Greg Hunt told reporters in Melbourne.
* "Scott Morrison and I and other federal colleagues didn't play an active role in this campaign, and it was fought on state (issues)." - Federal treasurer Josh Frydenberg told ABC TV on Saturday.
* "To think that there are no federal implications here - I hear Liberals desperately trying to say it's got nothing to do with us - is patently ridiculous." - Federal Labor MP Richard Marles told Sky News on Sunday.
* "We clearly have to do a root and branch review. We shouldn't be in this position. We did a lot of things right but obviously something has gone horribly wrong." - Shadow Attorney-General John Pesutto told ABC on Saturday.
* "Obviously that hasn't helped but it's hard to say how much of an effect it's had." - Victorian Liberal president Michael Kroger said on Saturday on his federal colleagues.
* "If there's one person who should stand down tonight it's Michael Kroger." - Former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett calling for state party president Mr Kroger to resign.
* "I hope that he's the Liberal Party president for life." - Andrews on Kroger.
* "He'll be in the pantheon of Labor leaders up there with Steve Bracks and John Cain." - Former Victorian premier John Brumby said of Mr Andrews.
