Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has pleaded for negotiation and compromise when Federal Parliament resumes next week but has urged Labor to meet him in the "sensible centre".
Addressing the LNP conference in Canberra, Mr Turnbull defended his decision to call a double-dissolution election and disputed criticism that the new Senate crossbench would make parliament unworkable.
"We have had constructive discussions with all of the crossbenches, and we are confident we can find common ground in order to achieve our objectives," he said.
"I urge Bill Shorten, Labor, and all of the parties to do the same and to meet us in the sensible centre."
Mr Turnbull said the upcoming parliamentary term had to be about "the bread-and-butter issues that occupy the thoughts of people, when they get up in the morning and go to bed" but he's also vowed to reintroduce the coalition's construction industry reforms and take them to a joint sitting if the Senate does not pass them.
