The girlfriend of a man who drowned after proposing underwater has paid tribute to him in an emotional social media post.

An American man has drowned after proposing underwater to his girlfriend in Tanzania.

Steven Weber Jr and his girlfriend Kenesha Antoine were on holidays on Pembla Island and staying in a submerged cabin when Mr Weber popped the question on Thursday.
