Victoria has eclipsed NSW for the first time in nine years as the nation's top performing economy, according to new data.
Construction, driven by strong population growth, took Victoria past NSW for the first time since CommSec's quarterly State of the States economic report began in 2009.
Population growth also kept ACT and Tasmania high in the rankings while Western Australia lagged the nation in most indicators including unemployment and construction work, CommSec announced on Monday.
