The Victorian government has launched a $7 million plan to tackle bullying and suicide in schools.

Almost $5 million of the funding will go towards supporting students with depression, anxiety and trauma, Education Minister James Merlino says.

"This is a silent tragedy and it's hurting families across our state. Our kids simply can't be their best if they don't feel happy, supported and included at school," he said in a statement on Friday.

Readers seeking support and information about suicide prevention can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800.
