The first order of business for Victoria's re-elected Labor government is to call tenders for Melbourne's next toll road, the North East Link.

Premier Daniel Andrews and his team swept to victory at the weekend and the government is expected to get to work on the road project on Monday.

"We will absolutely get cracking on those tender documents, that's a really important step forward to get the North East Link built," Mr Andrews told reporters.

"That gives us the capacity to move freight and people, hundreds of thousands of vehicles around the city rather than funnelling everybody through the middle of the city. It just makes sense."

While the government is keen to make progress on the project, Mr Andrews conceded contracts are not likely to be signed for another 12 months.

The premier has also flagged making changes to his cabinet, promising more details to come "soon".
