Western Australia border restriction is 'a long way away' from being lifted

Western Australia's premier says easing of the state's border restrictions is at least months away as the number of cases in eastern states continues to grow.

It will be months or even a year before Western Australia reopens its borders, the state's leader has said on the day it was originally slated to welcome interstate travellers once more.

Premier Mark McGowan announced on 23 June, when Victoria only had a couple of hundred active cases, that the borders would not reopen on 8 August as planned.
