The supermaxi was on track for a ninth title- and in record-setting time, too- but has been forced to retire from the race due to a broken hydraulic ram.
It was south of Gabo Island, off the east coast of Victoria, when it was forced to withdraw.
Perpetual Loyal is now the race leader, and it too is on a record-setting pace.
The current race record is held by Wild Oats Eleven, set when it won in 2012.
To set a new race record, whoever wins this year's race will have to cross the finish line before 7:23am eastern time tomorrow morning. (wed 28 dec)
