World champion snowboarder Scotty James has been revealed as the Australian flag-bearer for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old will carry the Australian flag at the opening ceremony in PyeongChang, South Korea.
The halfpipe star, who will be competing in his third Games, is a strong medal chance after dominating the discipline in the past year.
He told SBS on Thursday he was "over the moon."
"It’s an absolute honour and privilege to be walking out in front of this Winter Olympic team tomorrow night at the Opening Ceremony and waving the flag as high as I can and the way I know how. It should be great."
He was named by Olympics chef de Mission Ian Chesterman at a reception ahead of the Games showpiece on Friday evening.
At a team reception, Chesterman said James had "represented us with pride right about the world." James said the news is still new to him.
"I didn’t really know until I arrived here so I might have to go home and watch some past flag bearers of Australia and try and learn and get a couple of tips from them."
But when it comes to competing, he said he's well prepared.
"I feel really good. I’m just relaxed, I put all the work and hard yards in and I’ve been working really hard to be in this position and I’m just really excited to get out there and start practice tomorrow and compete when the time comes."
He received the honour after contenders Lydia Lassila, Britt Cox and David Morris pulled out of the ceremony to concentrate on their events.
Fewer than half of Australia's 51-strong team are expected to march in the opening ceremony, where -5 temperatures with a -10 wind chill is predicted, warmer than earlier in the week when -16 was recorded.
James will become the third snowboarder after Torah Bright and Alex Pullin to carry the flag.
