The body of a Korean woman has been recovered after she was swept away in flood waters at a popular tourist spot in far north Queensland.

The woman got into trouble at Josephine Falls, south of Cairns, late on Tuesday afternoon and police were called as the woman began struggling in the swollen river.

Initial reports from witnesses suggested she had been washed into the middle of the river after sliding down a rock face.

She was then swept further downstream and out of sight.

The woman's body was found around an hour later, but poor weather at the popular tourist spot hampered efforts to retrieve it.

After renewing efforts on Wednesday, authorities managed to retrieve her body.

A report into her death will be prepared for the coroner.
