Australian Federal Police say they've charged a 65-year-old Melbourne man under foreign interference laws.

The A-F-P says the man has a relationship with a foreign intelligence agency, but haven't named the country.

He's the first person to be charged with such an offence since foreign interference legislation passed federal parliament in 2018.
