A Korean Australian senate candidate in ACT for the Christian Democratic Party, Dr David Kim, a religious history and Asian studies academic at the ANU, reveals his ambition and motives for his determination to get into politics.

The Christian Democratic Party, led by controversial NSW MP Reverend Fred Nile, has made a bid for an ACT Senate seat in this year's federal election.

Australian National University religious history and Asian Studies expert David Kim has been endorsed by party members and is set to contest the poll expected in July.

Dr Kim said he plans to campaign for the restoration of Christian values and for the recovery of the status of traditional family if elected, as well as education and better infrastructure investment in the ACT.

The Korean-born father of three said "marginal groups" in the community should be respected, but the regulations and rules of Australia's education system should be based on the traditional family values, with a global outlook.

Sophia Hong speaks to him.
