Racially motivated attacks left seven people injured and one of the victims was a Korean woman.

Police have charged Shai Jevan Lewis, 25, who allegedly carried out a series of brutal, random attacks on people of Asian appearance in Randwick on Thursday night (May 17).

She spoke to the Nine News that she was at the bus stop waiting for a bus after work in Randwick. She noticed a man who was in an argument with a couple, who were of Asian appearance. She said the couple fled, after that the man tried to attack another Asian man, who also fled.

Afterwards, she said, the man approached to her and when she tried to run he hit her from behind, knocked her to the ground and then kicked her multiple times.

The man targeted people of Asian background in "unprovoked and random" attacks, Inspector Aaron Wunderlich told reporters in Sydney.

In total, seven people were hurt in attacks by the man on both Avoca Street and Belmore Road.
