No one could have predicted the year that lay ahead for Scott Morrison on election night 2019. Since his unexpected victory, political commentators say the prime minister has managed to both rise to the occasion and "make a mess of it".

Despite consistently being behind in the polls for three years, Scott Morrison led the Coalition to a surprise third term of government at the 2019 election.
