Australia’s delegation of peak business leaders met in Korea for the 39th Joint Meeting of Australia-Korea Business Councils to showcase and promote business and investment opportunities between the two countries.
The two-day program attracted more than 170 delegates from Australia and Korea, and featured speeches from former Deputy Prime Minister and AKBC Chairman Hon Mark Vaile AO, Australian Ambassador to Korea James Choi, and recently appointed POSCO CEO Choi Jeong-woo.
This year senior representatives from Macquarie Group, CSIRO, Pilbara Minerals, Tennis Australia, Swinburne University and the Korean Film Council joined panel discussions around the theme ‘Expanding the Possibilities’, with the focus on emerging opportunities across renewable energy, fourth industrial revolution and the services sector
“As Australia’s fourth largest trading partner, Korea is uniquely positioned to expand the possibilities of trade, investment and business – future possibilities of benefit to us all,” AKBC Executive Director Liz Griffin said.
In 2016-17, two-way trade with Korea was worth roughly $38.7 billion, representing 5.3 per cent of all of
Australia's international trade. Korea is Australia's third-largest market for goods and services exports, totalling $22.7 billion in 2016/17 – made possible by the Korea–Australia Free Trade Agreement.
