Several beachside towns and cities have banned the burkini, an Australian-designed item of swimwear that covers the whole body, including the head, and leaves the face uncovered.
The French administrative court, the Council of State, ruled the ban breached certain fundamental liberties, but the mayors of the towns and cities have vowed to uphold the bans,
Germany is also considering banning the burkini and former French president Nicholas Sarkozy has send if he is re-elected as president in next year's election he will make the ban nation-wide.
