A dying Gold Coast man nearly didn't get his beloved caramel sundae due to a logistical nightmare that the paramedics involved have asked the Queensland Ambulance Service to look into.

According to a Facebook post shared by the ambulance service, the paramedics asked the 72-year-old cancer patient, "If you could eat anything, what would it be?" He said he'd like a caramel sundae.

The caramel sundae is a tender memory the family will have as McCartney passed away on September 1.

Others are taking to social media to share their stories about how simple gestures, especially something like giving a sick person their favourite food, can be so special.
