The New South Wales Independent Planning Commission has rejected the development of a coalmine near Mudgee because of significant concerns about environmental impacts, including on climate change, and the costs to future generations.  Meanwhile,  one of the most controversial coal mines in Australia, Wyong Coal’s Wallarah 2 has been given approval by the NSW government, despite a previous “No ifs, No buts” promise to cancel the project from the incoming Liberal government following 13-year stoush.
