South Korean conglomerates such as KEPCO and KORES have been spurring the controversy and antipahty of local communities, environmentalis and even the media over thier immersive push for mining developments in NSW. The New South Wales Independent Planning Commission has rejected the development of a coalmine near Mudgee because of significant concerns about environmental impacts, including on climate change, and the costs to future generations.  Meanwhile,  one of the most controversial coal mines in Australia, Wyong Coal’s Wallarah 2 has been given approval by the NSW government, despite a previous “No ifs, No buts” promise to cancel the project from the incoming Liberal government following 13-year stoush.
