Beautiful Failures explores, through personal experience and journalistic investigation, a broken education system that fails too many kids and puts terrible pressure on all kids, including those who 'succeed'.

In an opinion piece titled 'My daughter, my beautiful failure' Lucy Clark wrote:

Every day of my daughters high school life has been a struggle. She wakes up in the morning and the thought of going to school - sometimes even the thought of going outside - is like an enormous mountain to climb.

Nothing will ever be as easy as your school years, well-meaning adults have told her, but I know for my daughter, and for many others who have struggled as square pegs trying to make themselves round, this is dead wrong.

She believes if we are to address the issue of rising pressure in education, the East-Asian Elephant in the room, of which people with Korean-background form a big part, can no longer be overlooked.

There's a Korean kid in my sons class, this woman is telling me, who goes to school on Saturdays. He doesn't have any learning difficulties, hes a really smart, switched-on kid, and he doesn't need any extra help for the work being set in class. Hes just trying to get the edge over all the other kids. They're ten!
