Labor's treasury spokesman Chris Bowen says he wants to lead the Labor Party but concedes the other candidate, Anthony Albanese would be the favourite.
Chris Bowen says the ALP needs to demonstrate that it can grow the economy and get more Australians in work.
[MP Chris Bowen: "I've been in parliament 15 years, I'm not perfect but I've learnt as I've gone. We've got to win the economic growth story and I think I can do that. I think I can take the party to a good position on economic growth and creating jobs. We cannot leave jobs and growth to the other side."]
Anthony Albanese says he offers a different perspective to Mr Bowen.
He says he believes in market capitalism but says governments sometimes need to intervene because markets they don't have a conscience.
He also sees infrastructure projects as particularly important.
[MP Anthony Albanese: “I wouldn't expect that there would be a massive chasm between my ideological position and Chris Bowen's because I don't think there is. I don't think we should try to create false distinctions where they're not there. I have a different perspective. If you look at my history, I believe, firmly, in nation building infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth. I'm very passionate about it."]
Both men have indicated they want to run while Jim Chalmers and Joel Fitizgibbon are still considering their positions.
