Christmas is approaching many would be looking to purchase gifts for their loved ones. Others may also look to make a purchase as businesses are offering discounted deals leading to Christmas.

NSW Fair Trading discusses some of the common consumer myths and provides consumer information to help ensure that everyone can enjoy gifts and purchases:

1.  Consumer guarantees may still apply after a product warranty expires.

2.  Interesting information about supermarket grocery pricing

3.  Buyers should check whether a deposit would be refundable before paying the deposit

4.  Cooling-off period only applies to a limited number of contracts and a consumer must take caution before signing to a contract

5.  A consumer may choose a remedy when there is an issue with the product or service for major defects, but not for minor defects

6.  Products do not need to be returned with original packaging if there is an issue with the product

Information about consumer rights and Christmas shopping are available on NSW Fair Trading website at www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au
