Consumer Information is a radio segment brought by NSW Fair Trading, the consumer protection agency. Steven Lee of the NSW Fair Trading joins SBS Korean program to advise of the new tenancy laws for victims of domestic violence and share tips for renting.

Tenancy reforms for victims of domestic violence living in a rented property started on 28 February 2019.

These laws allow a tenant to end their tenancy immediately, without penalty, if they or their dependent child are in circumstances of domestic violence.

For tenants in general, at the start of every tenancy, the landlord or agent must give you documents a copy of Fair Trading publication called the New Tenant Checklist. You should also be given a copy of your tenancy agreement and two copies of the premises condition report for you to fill in.

Tenants should not be required to pay more than 2 weeks rent in advance, or more than 4 weeks rent as a rental bond.
