Pubs, cinemas, and places of worship across Australia will be forced to close across Ausralia today [[mon]] to try and stem the spread of the coronavirus.

They are just some of the businesses classed as principal places of gathering by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and state and territory leaders.

Other types of venues that will have to close include registered and licensed clubs, entertainment venues, casinos, nightclubs, and indoor sports venues, including gyms.

Restaurants and cafes will be restricted to takeaway and delivery only.

Mr Morrison says the restrictions are necessary because Australians have not been adequately obeying advice about social distancing.

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has told Sky News the aim is to reduce pressure on the health system.
