Extreme anti-abortion hurts women in El Salvador.

Why are mothers in El Salvador being charged with homicide or manslaughter after losing a child? Dateline investigates the countrys extreme anti-abortion laws and finds local women fighting to have their cases heard. A recent report by Amnesty International found that each year, thousands of women and girls in El Salvador are put at risk under punitive criminal laws against abortion. Abortions is completely illegal, even if a woman has been raped, or if the pregnancy will put their health or life at risk.

This has led to women seeking risky clandestine abortions and being charged with serious offenses like homicide after having a miscarriage, stillbirth or other complications at birth.
