South Korea's binge eating broadcasters share meals with hundreds of fans over webcam.
The strangest programs are called mukbang, which means eating broadcast. Every night, 3000 broadcast jockeys televise themselves binge eating food on an online webcam channel.
Dateline meets one of these stars, BJ Fitness Fairy. BJ Fitness Fairy eats enough for three people while viewers pay to send her virtual balloons. She can make up to $4000 a week. The best BJs earn is $10,000 a month.
The Afreeca TV site that streams the shows is keen to point out that it doesnt encourage overeating.
The site has signed up 5,000 eaters, known as broadcast jockeys or BJs. It takes 30% commission from every fan payment.
Critics say this trend known as mukbang is a symptom of widespread loneliness.
Traditionally, Korean meals are made to be shared but more South Koreans live alone than ever before due to an increase in one-person households.
