Is it right? Make disabled child not growing anymore then can be looked after them.


Should parents have the right to stunt the growth of their severely disabled child to make them more physically manageable? Dateline explores the controversial debate in New Zealand and beyond.

Ultimately he agreed to do the treatment if it was also approved by ethicists, but in Australia there have been no reported cases of Growth Attenuation Therapy yet, and some want to keep it that way.

 

I was pretty horrified, says Kelly Vincent, whos the Dignity for Disability representative in South Australias upper house. …that people would go to such an extreme measure to make life more convenient for themselves.

Its a quality of life thing for both of us, Suzi responds. Its not a convenience thing for me… [Im] doing all I can to make his life as good as it can be.

 

So is it an act of love or a conflict of interest?
