Although a bill lifting medical cannabis restrictions has been passed by the Senate, still doctors are reluctant to prescribe the medication.

Marijuana has become a big issue again in South Korea because K-pop band Big Bang's member T.O.P has allegedly been charged with smoking marijuana

As a result of that he was expelled from the Korean National Police Agency where he was serving his mandatory two years of military service to the country.

South Korea tends to consider marijuana as only a serious illegal drug but, it is also known as an effective medication for patients suffering chronicle diseases.

In Australia, the bill passed by the Senate removes restrictions placed on doctors treating terminally ill patients with medicinal cannabis produced overseas.

However, doctors have expressed reservations about new laws making it easier for terminally ill patients to get medical cannabis from overseas.

The Australian Medical Association says its members are already reluctant to prescribe the drug.

But as SBS Korean program reports health advocates argue there is clear evidence of its therapeutic qualities.
