Family and domestic violence is a serious problem in Australia. As it is widely known that 1 in 6 women were physically and sexually abused before the age of 15. Furthermore, over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week by a current or former partner.
There is no specific data researched Korean community in Australia but it is believed that ethnic communities are also suffering domestic violence. There is also a concern that some factors including language barrier, lack of information and cultural difference might accelerate the problem within the immigration communities.
Relationships Australia, NGO dealing with various family issues is holding a Religious Leaders and Domestic and Family Violence Expo this week. The Expo will give religious leaders the opportunity to be better equipped to support children and families in our community.
