Why do some Indians learn Korean readily? Why is there the amazing similarity between Korean and Tamil? The weekly ‘Education Anatomy’ features an interview with a 2nd generation Tamil Australian who speaks Korean more fluently than some of Korean natives, so as to mark the Hangul Day, 9th of October.


Niha, a Sri Lankan Australian was being brought up in multilingual environments both at home and school. He spoke Tamil with his parents, English at school, and Korean with a couple of his Korean friends and through K-dramas.

He also points out another key reason that he is has been able to learn Korean readily must arise from the similarity between Korean and Tamil in terms of phonemic system, namely, pronunciation.
