A new report has revealed that at least 50,000 Australian children are completely detached from formal education in schools.


According to the University of Melbourne's Graduate School of Education, more than 50,000 unaccounted school-age children are completely disconnected from any form of education, including who never have been enrolled in school.

One of the researchers, Dr. Jim Watterston emphasised that this was an issue that needed to be brought out into public and receive urgent attention.

The researchers also called for a national support, including early intervention of the federal government and provision of accessible education programs and alternative environments to mainstream schools.
