According to the state government, the school will be the 49th selective high school in NSW, and will be built as a fully selective school.

This new school is expected to provide convenient local opportunities for students and families who have struggled to travel long distances to attend selective schools.

Some experts assert that increasing number of selective schools will have an adverse impact on social integration and educational equity, while others argue that promoting selective schooling can effectively support gifted students across all socioeconomic backgrounds.
