[Education Anatomy] The reason why ATAR top is only 99.95, not 100

In the NSW state’s HSC result released last month, total 46 students got the very top ATAR of 99.95.


ATAR is an index indicating which position you are located at among all students, and it is different from absolute scores.

99.95 is the top result a student can get from ATAR, that means he or she is in top 0.05% in terms of the scaled HSC result.

The scaling process can be another factor to decide a student’s ATAR index, as it is a process of putting much weight via certain formula on relatively difficult subjects such as economics and science.
