Rejecting her corruption trial as politically oriented, ousted former President Park Geun-hye said Monday she hopes she will be the last victim of "political revenge in the name of the rule of law".

Park made the remark during the first court hearing since her detention was extended last week for another six months. It was the first time that she has spoken during a court hearing since she was arrested in March in the massive corruption scandal involving her longtime friend Choi Soon-sil.

"I hope a period will be put after me (when it comes) to political revenge in the name of the rule of law," Park said.
