Fair Work Ombudsman’s 2016/17 Annual report: Engaging with the Korean community

More than 11,200 visits to Korean language content on the Fair Work Ombudsman website in 2017.


The Fair Work Ombudsman's annual report has found targeted Facebook posts and ads on Korean websites and apps were seen over one million times in 2017, and contributed to more than 11 200 visits to Korean language content on the FWO website.

Migrant workers continued to be over-represented in workplace disputes, making up six per cent of the workforce but accounting for 18 per cent of complaints.

Language and cultural barriers, concerns about losing visas and a lack of understanding of options can inhibit workers from seeking help, the report found.

“Engaging with the Korean community, including Korean business leaders, media and the Consular General, to develop a tailored strategy to educate this community about workplace rights and responsibilities.” the ombudsman's annual report said.
