Prosecutors on Thursday arrested a man who is believed to have managed assets belonging to former President Lee Myung-bak and hold a key to a corruption scandal surrounding an auto parts company, DAS, linked to Lee and his family.

The Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for Lee Byung-mo, the executive secretary of the Cheonggye Foundation, on charges of destruction of evidence, embezzlement and breach of trust.

He was placed under 48-hour detention on Tuesday.

He is suspected of disposing of ledgers that apparently had detailed records of the ex-president's financial accounts, possibly created under borrowed names, and their transactions. Lee is known to have long worked for the former president, mainly taking care of assets and property.

More details from Korean political commentator Jung-sik Seo.
