Four out of five workers have been injured or become ill on the job in survey findings unions say expose an underbelly of unsafe industrial practices.

Beth Celestino and Dale Mills both worked in banking for more than two decades.

But they say were eventually forced into early retirement by an increasingly toxic workplace culture.

Dale Mills says the performance pressure became too immense.

For Filipino migrant Beth Celestino, there were potentially devastating health impacts.

The ACTU says these stories are becoming too all too common.

Its survey of 25,000 workers finding seventy-nine per cent of respondents have an injury at work while 61 per cent have reported poor mental health because of bad management.

More than half were aware of hazards in their workplace and almost eighty per cent thought fines were too low for employers to take safety seriously.
