Free Korean health information session dealing with bowel cancer and free bowel cancer screening kit was held in Parramatta library on December 8, 2018.
The health session hosted by Korean Australian Medical Society (KAMS) and Korean Health and Community Assist (khca) was funded by the Cancer Institute NSW to promote National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.
General and Oesophago-gastric Surgeon Dr Sebastianus Kwon who led the health session says people from CALD backgrounds are less likely to participate in regular cancer screening, including bowel cancer screening.
Dr Kwon also was known as a president of KAMS says “Only 20% of CALD community participate in the screening test and many of them more likely to think screening is only necessary when symptoms are noticed.”
“The test is eligible for from people at age 50 to 74, and it is a free and simple test that can be done at home.”
“It can even detect bowel cancer even before it forms,” he says.
