Hyunseok Ryu’s GoFundMe appeal has generated over $12,000 in five days and shared over 300 hundred times in two weeks. SBS article was also recorded 1,200 recommendations and 8,000 hits. We have reviewed few of the flooded warm messages for him and talked to Hyunseok Ryu to know his latest news.
He could reach the hospital with the money collected and his surgery date is pencilled in Sept with the positive expectation for cornea donation on time; Embassy of the Republic of Korea has contacted him to inform him of Medical Treatment Visa (Subclass 602). He said he never expected such a huge reaction and is very grateful.
However, Whereas SBS pointed out that he calculated his cost very conservatively, less than $3 per meal, Hyunseok also found hidden medical fees he was unaware of, so the donation would be solely used to cover his medical fees whilst his stay may have to be prolonged due to 1 year of recovery period after surgery. The suggested Medical Treatment Visa requires a copy of the applicant’s bank account to prove that he has sufficient fund to support himself without working during the visa period.
Hyunseok nevertheless said that the warm response on GoFundMe page gave him the strength to bounce back. After the recovery, he wants to get a job and would like to be in the position to be able to help others who are desperate and going through painful days like him.
