John Howard has declared that the argument for tax reform and raising the GST to ease the persona-l income tax burden on average Australian wage earners is "overwhelming" and urged the government not to "sit around and do nothing".
Former prime minister John Howard says his strident stance on asylum seekers has been supported over time.
Mr Howard says he was widely criticized for turning back the Tampa in 2001 - a Norwegian freighter carrying more than 400 Afghan asylum seekers.
But he's told Sky News .. many countries now understand Australia's response saved lives.
He also believes industrial relations have returned to the 1980s, saying there should be individual contracts.
Mr Howard says the idea you can't make a contract directly without the injection of a union is absurd.
He's also criticised unfair dismissal laws, saying it's tough on small firms to have to pay "go-away money" for troublesome employees.
