<K-Identity in Australia> Esther Han, the first Korean Australian journalist for the SMH

K-Identity explores the identity issues through an interview with a variety of second-generation Korean Australian professionals working in various fields of the Australian mainstream. Esther Han, the first Korean Australian journalist is Consumer affairs editor for Fairfax Medias Sydney Morning Herald.


Esther, born in Australia, had no idea what she wanted to be until year 12, but she found that she loved reading, writing and speaking and eventually she ended up having a dream of being a journalist. She thought, The truth is paramount.

 

Esther indicated that many Media students are having a difficulty of getting jobs and it will be worse in the future due to closing down of media outlets and newsrooms around the world, especially in Australia. However she encourages the Korean Australian prospective journalists to develop their own competitiveness that other Caucasian candidates would not have, such as understanding of cultural diversity and how they are involved in Korean community in Australia.
