One of Opera Australia’s most beloved productions, Puccini’s last opera Turandot has returned to rule the Sydney stage, starring Mariana Hong formerly known as Hyeseoung Kown, with her signature role of Liu.

Major newspapers including the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph have lauded Graeme Murphy’s bold vision of the truly stirring story at its heart, as a spectacle for the eyes.

Murphy’s daring production for Puccini’s final opera is considered one of the ultimate classics in the Opera Australia repertoire.

Featuring the director’s own famous choreography, sculptural stagecraft and larger than life costumes, this renowned staging of Turandot has transformed this already powerful drama into a spectacular piece of theatre.

The renowned Korean Australian soprano Mariana Hong joins an American powerhouse soprano Amber Wagner who makes her triumphant return to Sydney to take on the role of the brutal Turandot.

Wagner has been praised by the media as  the perfect fit to play the impervious princess, and will be matched by Serbian soprano Dragana Radakovi who has been joined by an international Korean sensation Yonghoon Lee.

Turandot plays at the Sydney Opera House until March 30.

Interview with Mariana Hong is available on podcast.
