South Korea’s leading tennis star Hyeon Chung of the world no 58 has advanced to the 2nd round of the season’s first major tournament, Australian Open in Melbourne.

S. Korea's top player Hyeon Chung won the first round match after Mischa Zverev of Germany was forced to retire in the second set due to his injury.

Chung expressed his concern over Zverev’s injury in an interview with SBS Radio after winning the match.

Chung who managed to advance to the 2nd round for the 2nd time at major championships in his career will face Daniil Medvedev of Russia (world no 53) on 18 January at the Melbourne Park.

Chung had the shorter opening round contest and Medvedev did not impress the fans heavily defeating an injured Thanasi Kokkinakis.

They met last year in Milan at the NextGen finals where Chung defeated Medvedev.

According to some tennis commentators in Sydney, Chung will benefit from the short match yesterday and move on to the third round.

Chung is indeed regarded as a real talent who boasts an interesting technique with higher probability of himself being able to advance further for the first time in his career.
