Korean student jockeys having training in Australia aims to win Melbourne Cup

A teacher in Korean Horseman High School said students having a special training in Rockhampton have set a goal to get employed in Australias leading horse industry.


Korean Horseman High School is a specialist equestrian school in Namwon, Korea. It has signed an agreement with the Rockhampton Jockey Club and the local council to provide the training program to aspiring Korean students.

 

Eight students are expected to arrive this month and they will be taught in Callaghan Park race track. Some equestrian theory and practical training as well as English language lesson will be included in the program.

The school has been sending students to Australia since 2011 where has leading Equine industry and some of their graduates has successfully employed in Australia and New Zealand.

Cheong Hwa Woo, teacher in Korean Horseman High School said the ultimate goals for students having training in Rockhampton are getting employed in Australias leading horse industry.

What we are aiming for the most is producing a world-class horse and jockey that can win in Melbourne Cup Mr Woo said.

This year, there are several students obtaining a good English skill, chances are higher than previous years.
