Australian Koreans in Sydney have donated $22,600 as of 21st of January through a peak Korean community organisation, ‘the Korean Society of Sydney’ for bushfire relief.
In an interview with SBS Korean, the President of the Korean Society of Sydney Mr Kwang Hong Yoon expressed thanks to Korean community members who had taken part in the appeal.
Mr Yoon said “Australia is a great multicultural nation and has been offering a variety of opportunities to all the migrants including Australian Koreans.
“We cannot help ignoring the bushfire ravaged nation, bushfire victims and firefighters”
He went on, “In crises like these, it is heartening that all Australians, no matter what our background or where we were born, come together to help each other, Australian Koreans really want to take an initiative in this kind of appeals.”
Mr Yoon also said “On behalf of the Korean community in Sydney, I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the work of many community groups their valuable contribution.”
The Korean Society of Sydney will continue the fundraising for bushfire relief till the end of this month and contribute the donations to the Salvation Army on 5 February at its hall in Croydon Park.
