Federal Labor frontbencher Tony Burke said Michael Daley's comments about Asians taking jobs stopped everything in its tracks for Labor.

Federal Labor frontbencher Tony Burke said there are lessons learned from the outcome of the NSW election: Michael Daley's comments about Asians taking jobs need to be condemned and apologised for.

Although NSW Labor leader Michael Daley started the election campaign on the front foot, he stumbled badly in the final week of the campaign especially when a video was released, showing him claiming that Asian immigrants are taking the jobs of young Australians.

The Opposition leader issued a qualified apology after comments he made in the Blue Mountains in September emerged.

Mr Burke admits that Mr Daley’s comment were damaging for the final week of the campaign as it went very badly for Labor.

“Those comments need to be condemned, need to be apologised for and they were apologised for that those comments really stopped everything in its tracks for Labor,” he said.
