Government backbencher Julian Leeser has used parliament to condemn North Korea over its repeated testing of illegal nuclear and ballistic weapons and significant ongoing human rights abuses.
Since its establishment in the 1940s, North Korea has repeatedly proved itself to be a bad international citizen, more content to be a rogue state than a participant in the rules based international order, Mr Leeser said.
North Korea is one of the worlds worst human rights abusers, citing the findings of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry on human rights abuses in North Korea.
Mr Leeser called on the government of North Korea to abandon its missile and nuclear program, use the resources spent on its nuclear and missile programs to improve the livelihood of its citizens, adhere to UN Security Council resolutions, and re-join the international community and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
He also encouraged China to pressure North Korea to adhere to international agreements and begin constructive talks to permanently dismantle its nuclear capabilities.
SBS Radio Korean program conducted an interview with Liberal MP Julian Leeser, a Federal Member for Berowra.
