I really wish my grandmother would see Korea of today, then she would know her sons death was not in vain

The Korean Cultural Centre Australia launched a new exhibition Passage to Pusan: The journey bridging the friendship of two families to commemorate the anniversary of the Korean War broke out June 25, 1950.

The exhibition is based on the book of the same name by Australian journalist Louise Evans.

Ms Evans wrote a story of her grandmother Thelma Healy who made a 15,000km solo journey to Korea in 1961 to visit grave of her soldier son Vincent, who died fighting in the Korean War. Ms Healys story of saving for 10 years to make the trip to see her sons grave in Korea heavily touched Korean War widow Kim Chang Keuns heart and she promised to look after Vincents grave on Ms Healys behalf as a Korean mother.

SBS Korean program meet Ms Evans and talk about her familys special tie with Korea.

Exhibition Information

23 June - 1 September 2017 (Mon-Fri, 10am-6pm) at Korean Cultural Centre Gallery
